No mysticism required. Here is what is happening in your body, and why this works when talking alone hasn't.
Your nervous system is stuck "on"
Chronic stress keeps you in fight-or-flight long after the stressor has gone. That is the wired-but-tired feeling, the shallow breath, the tight jaw. Not a flaw, a system that hasn't been told it's safe to stand down.
The breath is the lever you hold
Breathing is the one part of this system you can consciously steer. The right breath sends a direct signal, through the vagus nerve, that it is safe to soften. That is why you can shift your state in minutes, not months.
The body holds it, the body releases it
Old stress is stored physically. Breathwork lets the body discharge what it has been carrying, rather than talking around it. This is why people describe a felt release, not just an insight.
Your system can rewire
Thanks to neuroplasticity, your nervous system can learn a new baseline. With practice, calm stops being something you chase and becomes somewhere you return to. That is the whole point of teaching you to do this yourself.

I've walked this path myself
I spent 17 years as an Ishaya monk and meditation teacher, developing deep stillness of mind. But stillness alone never healed the trauma my body was holding. Breathwork did.
I learned to stop bypassing my "broken" parts and to meet them with curiosity instead. That is what I teach: how to stay present with whatever rises, and how to hold space for yourself.
